Removable sofa covers verses traditional upholstery
In contrast, traditional upholstery offers less flexibility. Once upholstered, sofas are fixed in their design and fabric, making them much harder to update than sofas with removable covers, and more difficult to clean.
Traditionally upholstered sofas restrict access to the interior foam and cushion inserts, making even minor maintenance or repairs difficult. In most cases, the fabric or leather is stapled, sewn, or glued in place, meaning it often needs to be carefully unpicked or cut open to reach internal components. This process typically requires professional reupholstering and can be costly and time-consuming. Are some sofa covers easier to change than others?
Yes. While every King Living sofa cover is easily removed and fitted with hidden Velcro or concealed zips, some designs and materials make removing, changing, and refitting covers even simpler. The ease can vary across the collection, as each fabric has a unique composition that affects its level of stretch.
The 1977 Sofa, for example, is known for offering one of the easiest cover removal experiences. It is compatible with Leura S, a bouclé fabric specifically designed to stretch and exclusive to the 1977 Sofa and 1978 High Back Sofa. Together, the design and fabric allow for covers to be removed and replaced with minimal effort.

How to remove your sofa covers
King Living designers understand your sofa is a lifetime investment in personal comfort and wellbeing, and because of that, have taken great care to ensure the process of removing your sofa covers is as simple as possible.
For added ease for any sofa removal and recovering, we recommend having a second person assist. Neatly concealed zippers are strategically placed to provide effortless access to each cover. By unzipping the covers, you can remove them from the sofa modules.
As you remove each cover, you’ll notice a personalised label known as the King Legacy Tag. This special tag serves as a unique identifier, featuring your name, order number, and part number. These details are essential if you need to order new sofa covers, helping our dedicated King-Care® team identify the specific covers you require.
And of course, our King Care® team is always available to help with recovering and maintenance services. While the full King Care® service is currently exclusive to Australia, we offer removable covers worldwide and have service technicians in all markets who can assist with in-home cover replacement.
How to clean your sofa covers
We recommend cleaning your fabric furniture regularly. Depending on the wear and tear or spill, there are many ways to clean your fabric sofa covers without having to remove them entirely.
Here are our top three cleaning tips for fabric sofa covers:
1. Vacuum weekly using low suction or a soft brush accessory to remove dust and damaging dirt particles.
2. Never use detergents, alcohol, chemicals, soaps, shoe polish, wax, window cleaner, silicone, saddle soap or any cleaning product not designed specifically for your type of fabric. King-Care® cleaning products will clean, protect and maximise the life of your fabric, with King-Care® Fabric kits available to purchase in showrooms or online.
3. Avoid vigorous rubbing and never soak fabric. For spills, leave the a in place until most or all the liquid has been absorbed. Then allow the fabric to air-dry. Dabbing or rubbing will make the liquid penetrate further into the fibres.
Top three cleaning tips for leather sofa covers:
1. Dust your furniture weekly or use a soft vacuum attachment, to avoid the leather being scratched by loose particles.
2. Depending on how often you use your leather furniture, apply King-Care® Leather Cleaner and Conditioner once every 6 to 8 weeks or as required. Be careful not to clean more often than recommended, to avoid deterioration of the protective surface.
3. Avoid vigorous rubbing and never soak your leather. Never use detergents, alcohol, chemicals, soaps, shoe polish, wax, window cleaner, silicone, saddle soap or any cleaning product not designed specifically for your type of leather, as it may cause greater damage and discolouration.
